Humedales de Maullín

Humedales de Maullín is located within the Commune of Maullín, Llanquihue Province, in the Lakes District of Chile and covers 1,350 hectares. Hosting more than 1% of the biogeographic population of Hudsonian Godwit (Limosa haemastica) gives the site a “Regional Importance” designation.

The wetland complex of Maullín has a high diversity of ecosystems, and consequently various habitat types. As a whole, they make up a natural wetland complex with strong tidal influence. The main wetland ecosystem types present within this complex include: tidal flats, salt marshes, sandy beaches, freshwater lagoons and marshes, estuaries, and a number of smaller watercourses with a depth less than six meters. At low tide an intertidal area of up to 600 m in length is exposed.
