Overview
The coastal ecosystem comprising the 187,500-hectare (465,000-acre) Bahía Magdalena is within the municipalities of La Paz and Comondú, but is federally governed under Mexican coastal zoning laws. Bahía Magdalena, also a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance, hosts a total of 24 shorebird species, including significant percentages of the biogeographic populations of: Marbled Godwit (Limosa fedoa) [3.3%]; Willet, (Tringa semipalmata) [1.7%]; endangered Snowy Plover (Charadrius nivosus) [4.4%]; and Whimbrel (Numenius phaeopus) [1%].
