Governing Bodies

National Councils

National Councils design and implement pertinent activities that help support Site Partners, and which contribute to the achievement of the Network’s mission for their region or country.

WHSRN-USA Committee

The WHSRN-USA Committee operates under the U.S. Shorebird Plan Council to ensure coordinated implementation of the WHSRN strategic plan and the U.S. Shorebird Conservation Plan. To facilitate timely communication and action, roles and responsibilities are divided into those taken directly by the WHSRN-USA Committee, in collaboration with the WHSRN Executive Office, and those taken by, or through, the Shorebird Plan Council.

In 2017, the USA committee of WHSRN was re-vitalized to support WHSRN site partners in the U.S., identify new U.S. WHSRN sites, develop and implement work programs, and promote the Network among site partners.

WHSRN-USA Committee Roles

  • Identify shorebird priority sites and solicit nominations of new sites in the U.S.
  • Review U.S. site nominations and provide Executive Office with recommendation on acceptance into the Network.
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration and ensure communication and coordination among Member Sites and Partners
