Announcing a New Shorebird Story Map: Whimbrels on the Wing
Many of you remember traveling with T971, the star of The Journey of a Semipalmated Sandpiper.
This month, we are excited to share a new story map, assembled by Manomet’s Shorebird Recovery Program staff and the product of many years of research across multiple organizations and agencies.
Whimbrels on the Wing is the story of three individual Whimbrels. Explore the places they visit, the astounding distances they fly, and the people working to understand and protect this species across the hemisphere.
As WHSRN partners and supporters, you are helping to deliver and empower effective conservation action at the sites that matter most to migratory shorebirds. We hope Whimbrels on the Wing helps you share that story. Please feel free to use this story map as an outreach and education tool – and share it far and wide!
Migratory shorebirds connect us, and WHSRN links us in our work to protect them.
Thank you for all you do as part of WHSRN! We are excited to share Whimbrels on the Wing!

Habitats for Shorebirds and the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network (WHSRN) are initiatives of Manomet’s Shorebird Recovery Program. Through science, site conservation, and habitat management, we are working with partners across the hemisphere to conserve critical sites and improve the quality and availability of habitat for imperiled shorebirds.
