Un total de 150 voluntarios de 18 organizaciones salieron a contar aves playeras y otras aves acu\u00e1ticas en los humedales de toda la regi\u00f3n. Se registr\u00f3 un total de 106 especies, incluyendo 74 especies de migradores ne\u00e1rticos. De estos migradores, 29 especies fueron aves playeras, incluidas tres especies que se consideran residentes y migrantes en Am\u00e9rica Central (el Ostrero americano\u00a0<em>Haematopus palliatus<\/em>, el Perrito\u00a0<em>Himantopus mexicanus<\/em>\u00a0y el Chorlo pico grueso\u00a0<em>Charadrius wilsonia<\/em>). M\u00e1s de un cuarto de todas las aves acu\u00e1ticas registradas durante el censo fueron aves playeras (57.385), la gran mayor\u00eda de las cuales fueron migradoras ne\u00e1rticas (55.522). Las especies m\u00e1s comunes fueron Playero Occidental\u00a0<em>Calidris mauri<\/em>\u00a0(7.683 individuos), Playerito Menor\u00a0<em>Calidris minutilla<\/em>\u00a0(6.328 individuos), Chorlo semipalmado\u00a0<em>Charadrius semipalmatus<\/em>\u00a0(5.066 individuos), Becasa de pico corto\u00a0<em>Limnodromus griseus<\/em>\u00a0(4.160 individuos) y Chorlo pico grueso\u00a0<em>Charadrius wilsonia<\/em>\u00a0(4.137 individuos).<\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\">Tres sitios demostraron ser de gran importancia para las aves playeras ne\u00e1rticas debido a que el n\u00famero total de una especie en particular supera el 1% de su poblaci\u00f3n biogeogr\u00e1fica. De estos sitios, uno ya fue designado sitio RHRAP y dos podr\u00edan ser posibles sitios nuevos. Se encontraron n\u00fameros significativos de <em>Charadrius wilsonia<\/em> (ssp.\u00a0<em>beldingi<\/em>) en el Delta del Estero Real (Nicaragua), que representan el 13% de la poblaci\u00f3n biogeogr\u00e1fica de la especie. Se observ\u00f3 una bandada de 2.500 individuos, lo que representa el 33% de la poblaci\u00f3n biogeogr\u00e1fica de la especie. Esto calificar\u00eda a El Agallito como un sitio de Importancia Hemisf\u00e9rica de la RHRAP. Finalmente, en Laguna Chingoro (M\u00e9xico) se cont\u00f3 un total de 2.135 individuos de\u00a0<em>Limnodromus griseus<\/em>\u00a0(ssp.\u00a0<em>caurinus<\/em>), lo que representa el 2.8% de la poblaci\u00f3n biogeogr\u00e1fica de la especie.
